Roopa Anand

Roopa Anand is a passionate and dedicated Bharatanatyam teacher who has been teaching this classical dance form for over 20 years. She started learning Bharatanatyam from various gurus and for over 28 years she was under the tutelage of Shanthala Awardee Karnataka Kalashree Guru B Bhanumati, one of the most eminent and respected Bharatanatyam dancers and choreographers in India.

Roopa has since performed in various prestigious venues and festivals across India and abroad. Currently, apart from pursuing a Masters Degree in Bharathanatyam she is advancing her training on Nattuvanga from Sri D V Prasanna Kumar.

Roopa has devoted substantial efforts to mentor the younger generation, fostering their talent and passion for this intricate art form. Roopa's solo and group choreographies, performed by her students, have garnered appreciation from audiences. She has also choreographed several original dance compositions based on themes such as women empowerment, environmental awareness alongside many traditional themes.

Roopa believes that Bharatanatyam is not only a form of art, but also a way of life. She strives to impart this knowledge and skill to her students, who range from beginners to advanced levels. She teaches them the nuances and intricacies of the dance, as well as the values and ethics that underlie it. She encourages them to develop their own style and creativity, while maintaining the purity and authenticity of the tradition.

Roopa also organizes workshops, seminars, and performances for her students to showcase their talent and learn from other experts to provide them with a holistic education in the arts. Roopa's vision is to spread the beauty and joy of Bharatanatyam to a wider audience, and to inspire the next generation of dancers to pursue this art form with passion and dedication. She is also committed to preserving and promoting the heritage and culture of Bharatanatyam, which is one of the oldest and most popular forms of Indian classical dance.
